The light bulb goes on…

after the comments I received from my post yesterday.   At the first hint of ice coming my way I will cover my windshield on the car with cardboard.  Thank you all for your helpful hints.

The sun is shining brightly this morning at 13 degrees right now.  I am reminded of that old song by Wynn Stewart, ‘It’s Such  Pretty world Today, Look at the Sunshine.’  However it is is nippy enough outside that I am not going out for awhile.  It is supposed to warm up to 30 degrees today.  I need to figure out a way to get the ice off my garbage container.  I think I will put some ice melt on the top and see how that works.

I gave up on the book I was reading yesterday that I reviewed for you all.  It was boring!  I am used to a fast paced book.  I love a good murder mystery.  I have about 100 books on my Nook and all kinds of books that I haven’t read in my bookcase.  I need to get my Nook out and use it again as it has been sitting idle for awhile.  I actually like the feel of a book in my hands.  I also confess that I always read the last few pages of a book before I start it and that is a bit of a chore on the Nook.  And I have this thing too about a book that I consider boring after the first 14 pages.  I stop reading it and put it in the box that I have going for Goodwill.  I have donated dozens of books to them since I have been here.

I do need to get off the computer and do a bit of cleaning.  I think I will check the freezer too and see if I have anything good to cook.

I will be around to see you all in a little while.  Stay safe and be happy!!

Beth

  1. Ohh Good idea with the carboard, you'll have to let us know how it works :).

    Stay in and warm!

Oh man sorry the book was boring, it sounded like it would have been a good one! I'm the same I like a fast pace murder mystery!

  2. I too like to read real books, in spite of my Kindle. However, it seems like I'm reading at night more often than not and I love the fact that the Kindle is lit up! If you haven't read either of my first two books (Everything's Relative and A Rat Among Us), they are available for your Nook at Smashwords.com under my name, Sue A. Lehman. I'm sure they'd both hook you in the first 10 pages! Happy reading! (They're both available in paperback through Amazon under the titles "Blindsided" and "The Rat.")

  3. Beth, Please be extra careful when you go outside. It is cold here today brr cold. I know what you mean about reading..it takes a lot to hold my interest any more. I read some Ann Tyler books , years ago...omg, what a wordsmith and a long way to the meat of the story, and sometimes that was scraps. LOL.. xoxo,Susie

  4. Hi Beth

Yes I am in the habit of reading the end pages of the book, before I get there also.

Bit Warmer here today and no further snow fall, but some still remaining on ground and roofs.

    Take Care, Hugs Nita

  6. Good morning, Beth! We are frozen here too. Yesterday morning I had to take Spencer for a dr. appt. and we left at 6:45am. It was -27 degrees!! Yes, that is a MINUS sign. And no, I don't live in Alaska. I love your new widget. Great idea! Have a fabulous day!

  7. Hi Beth My sister sent me a book last November , she said give it a chance read at least 100 pages. Well I did but still found it boring , not picked up since. Enjoy your Nook or Book.

  8. There is nothing worse than ice! We make sure our wipers are lifted to the "up" position when the ice is forming. The worst part is to be sure not to fall when approaching the vehicle. Ice melt pellets work well on the ground surrounding it too.
    You widget is great!

  9. If you think that book was boring I won't consider reading it. I'm like you if I don't get into it in the first few pages, I don't read it.
    Have a great day!

  11. I am so glad that someone else reads the end page(s) first-I am forever being teased about that-LOL
    Have a good week

  12. I don't see how you could read the end first. : ) It would ruin the book for me.

  13. Blessings....
Well you know i like to read, love books and have been doing electronic reading as well.

I too have lots of unread books here and in my tablet, mostly because am a mood reader and sometimes am not into a particular genre and would opt for the library and get something else. Have a vampire trilogy i was reading, am on the first book but stopped when it got a bit too predictable, I like being able to predict where i think a book would go/yet not, I love being surprised, few does that, kinda like the same with my movies. My eldest daughter gets crazy when i tell here what would happen in a movie we have never seen and it actually happens, she says to me, "mom why do you bother, for graps sakes!" hehe.

Anyway happy reading. i haven't set any reading goals as of yet, just enjoying doing puzzles

  14. The wind came up with a vengeance for us today which makes the warmth feel like it went somewhere else. I like to keep things clean but I don't think I'll get to it much until Thursday...sigh.

  15. One thing I LIKE about my Nook is that I can't readily look at the last page. ;)

  16. Hi Beth. Hope you don't get all iced in. It's horrible when your car has to be outside in the winter. I'm enjoying my Nook. Lately I've been downloading all their free books. Our first choice for a book is a murder mystery or a CIA type of book.

  17. That weather is heading our way after some very nice weather.
    Oh the heating bill!
I hate plowing through a book and never getting interested.

  18. I remember that song! I always liked it. I have a Kindle and really like reading on it. I think it is easier and more lightweight to hold than a book is. Good idea about the cardboard on the windshield.

  19. I learned two things here...one is that you and I both like to sneak a peek at the final pages of a book. And I won't be able to do that with my reader so easily? Well shoot. That might end my reading on the reader right there. And I also think that life is too short to read a dull book.

Oh and another...cardboard on the windshield in an ice storm. I imagine that would work for frost as well.

  20. I also miss the feel of a book in my hand and I confess to looking ahead to the end of the book! Hope you can rest soundly tonight and have a good day tomorrow. We have rain and more rain this week.

  21. Hi Beth! I'm so happy I mentioned putting cardboard over your windshield because I almost didn't. I thought it might sound like I was telling you something you already knew, or was being a "know-it-all." LOL (I'm pretty sure you have to place the wipers slightly on top of the cardboard, too, so it stays in place.)
I remember that song, too!! Wow, haven't thought of it in years.
And as far as books go, I love the feel and smell of a "real" book... and I'm also very impatient. When I'm browsing in the library or book store, if I don't like the first page or two....I put it back! And if I happen to have one at home...I may read as far as 10 pages...and if it doesn't reach me in some way, it's a goner! Oh, and I never read the end of a book until I get there!

  22. I am so lucky to have a garage for my car AND it's heated! I am not a reader of books or long stories, I always feel like I am missing out!

  23. Hmmm that cardboard idea is good! I too give up relatively early when reading a book that is slow. ..and I love the feel of a good book in my hands
Much better than on my kindle

  24. I remember that song! I agree with you. There are so many books, it is hard to spend time with one that doesn't interest you. I think donation is a wonderful way to recycle. I also like the way a real book feels. It is tangible. Have a great day!

  25. Freezing rain is the worst part of winter as far as I'm concerned. It just adds a layers of danger to anyone venturing out. Glad you got the cardboard on.

I don't bother with books much. In one of my past careers I worked as a technical writer. I've had my fill.

Sorry for not visiting you or anyone else. My back pain has me at its mercy. My regular Doc finally referred me to my spinal surgeon. So now I wait.

  26. I like to keep a real book in the car and use my ereader while at home that way I do not have to worry about the battery going flat in the reader while I am out...........lol

  27. Ice sucks..hopefully it will melt fast. The cardboard might work..unless water gets behind it and freezes the whole thing to your windshield. I love my garage!! :)
