Monday Musings..

It’s Monday again.  It never fails to amaze me that I  made it through another week.  We got some rain last night, I can tell by seeing puddles here and there.  Not sure how much rain we got.  I listen to NOAA weather each morning on the scanner and I do know that Peoria got .12 inches of rain last night.  If we get enough of this 10th of an inch of stuff eventually it will add up to an inch.  The chance of rain today is 50% with high in the mid 70s.

I did some laundry over the weekend and I actually ironed a few things.  I have this old heavy metal ironing board that I got about 100 years ago.  I would like to find a permanent place to set it up so it would be handy for me as I hate dragging the thing in and out of the closet.  Because of this I rarely iron anything.  I remember when I was moving here that the moving van people charge by the pound and I debated on whether to even bring the monstrosity or not.  Sentiment won and there the big old thing sits in my hallway closet being used once in a blue moon.

When the weather cools in earnest I plan to start sewing on my new sewing machine if I can figure out how to fill the bobbins.    As my sis would say “Life’s a pickle, once you’ve been in the brine.”  I have patterns and some material and now all I need is a jump start.

Have a good week.  Stay safe and be happy!!

Beth

  1. I used to have to get my husband to do the bobbins and install it into its place. Even bring the thread up. THEN I would commence sewing. It was an old Kenmore machine. I made some baby things on it..a blouse with two right sides (accident I assure you) and a bungled skirt that I tried to wear anyway, Then, I retired it to the floor of the closet for the rest of its days.

  3. I have a sewing machine I rarely use. Only really for stitching up the edge of my rug fabric before I hook. I hate it when the bobbin runs out. Filling it seems to be the most frustrating process.

  5. I have a new machine, too, well it has been sitting here for two years! I can't get the hang of threading it! My sister in law has offered to help and I keep putting it off. If I don't have the patience to thread it, will I have the patience to follow a pattern?! Best of luck!!

  6. Well I don't have a sewing machine but I do have a new camera. Some day I hope to learn how to use it. It's been hot and sticky here. I realise that has nothing to do with a sewing machine or camera. I'm vamping here. Did I mention it was hot and sticky here?

  7. We have two hot days which is more of the same then a huge thirty degree cool down mid-week. I know many that are excited about that. I will soon be out of pictures from our mountain adventure...perhaps it will start looking more like fall and I'll get something new...same view perhaps but something different going on.

  8. I hate to iron and very rarely do it. I'd probably do it even less if I had to move a heavy board around to do it. Mine is fairly lightweight. Good luck with your sewing project.

  9. I am lucky to have a room to keep my ironing board set up. I find I really do get my ironing done right away now.
I little bit cooler here now - only high 80's now.

  11. Keep collecting that material for winter. I have a feeling it's going to be a cold one. There is a weather pattern we're seeing here that has switched from dry to wet and this winter should be from warm winter to cold winter for you and a wet winter for us....which is good:) And ironing??? Who does that anymore?:)

  12. I'd rather clean toilets than iron but I do sometimes. Have a happy day!

  13. I chuckled at the "filling bobbins" comment.:) Sometimes it's the very basic step that eludes us the longest.

I don't look forward to ironing, but there are several things that come from the dryer still in need of the iron. We gifted ourselves with a steamer for our birthdays in April, but I just don't seem to get the hang of it quite well enough. That's one thing I need to figure out.:)

Glad you are having some rain. Every little bit is a help!

  14. I hardly ever iron, but when I do I have to hall out my ironing board from the closet too. I don't have a place that I can leave it up.
Have fun with your new sewing machine. I don't sew at all. I made a dress in Home Mec years and years ago and that was it. Never sewed again.
    Thanks for you visit.

  15. We got about a quarter of an inch rain last night..hardly enuf to wet the dirt but better than none. :)

My ironing board is one that hangs on the door and i just love it. Really handy for pressing *I seldom IRON anything anymore*
and I don't have to move it all around.

I just WISH I could sew. I CAN fill the bobbins but that's about it. ;(

    1. When my children were small I made a lot of their clothing. I even sewed a dress for my daughter when she was in a cousin's wedding. Now if you will come and fill my bobbins for me then I can get started sewing. :-) Perhaps I could send them to you. lol

  16. I have my grandmother's ironing board and it's so sturdy, an elephant could sit on it and it wouldn't bend. Seriously. It must have been made in the 40's. Maybe even the 30's. Not sure. I am just glad to have it because the ones they have for sale today are so flimsy!!!

I wish I knew how to sew. My mom used to make all my clothes. They were the prettiest around!

  17. The proof is in the puddles--LOL! :)
I had a huge old heavy metal ironing board that was avocado green that I bought in the late 60s. Finally the catch broke after about 40 years. But I couldn't get rid of it, either, until it broke. :)
    Have a great week!!

  18. The Euro pillow forms arrived today, but the shams need to be pressed first ... but that means I have to drag my big old avocado green metal ironing board out of the laundry room (it's wedged in between the dryer and the corner ... in a space just barely big enough to hold the ironing board). I'll make myself drag it out tomorrow because I'm really anxious to get all the bedding on our new bed ... but I'm dreading it. I'll probably go ahead and move it into the sewing room as I hope to be able to start piecing my next quilt by the end of this week/first of next week. No sense in dragging it out, struggling to put it back, and then dragging it back out in a few days. ha!

  19. I always wished I could sew. I do by hand, and and very good at mending, hemming, stitchery, etc. But I wish I could sew on a machine. I always love doing laundry & ironing. It's satisfying to me. When Bill comes home from the road, I feel I have done my job after I do all of his laundry & mend his clothes. *lol*
I am glad your tests are okay. Keep feeling better! Hugs!

  20. i have sewn my entire like and still struggle with bobbins!! you would think in this day and age, they could resolve the never ending bobbin problem.

it's a lil cooler her, no rain (just in case you were wondering!!)

  21. How could you have not brought that ironing board with you :) And I can't wait to see what your going to sew this fall! I still have to take out the instruction book every time I have to wind my bobbins lol. Never seem to remember from one time to the next.

And yay your tests were ok ... whew!!

  23. Glad you got some rain!! Hope it stay cooler there for you!

Oh man ironing yup not my thing ... lol. I have a very small board I bought at Ikea a few years back. it's really compact so if I'm in dire need I can pull it out and it fits on the washer or the table.

  24. Well a little rain is better than none I suppose. It finally poured again today we have been getting rain every other day for a while I do not mind. We waited a long time for it.
I really miss sewing I never find time maybe I should be doing that instead of blogging:) I have Bernina's and a Singer Featherlight. Good luck on the threading thing;) B
